Attract the Right Millennial's

No company likes to waste money but one of the biggest money pits is recruitment. With unemployment low, it is the perfect market for a job seeker. As some companies scramble to lure the best talent, many find themselves pouring money into their recruitment department with little return on their investments. Despite their efforts, research has shown that millennial’s will stay on average three years in a position. Millennial’s will also make up over 75% of the workforce in the next decade. Is your company prepared? Are you honestly investing in the right areas?

Well studies have shown that communication is among the key sources to attracting and maintaining great employees. When a recruiter responds to every applicant, this can make the company more appealing. Encourage your team to communicate with every applicant.

Another great thing that will attract millennial’s is flexible work hours. The structured 9 – 5, is no longer appealing. It actually can cause resistance in employees. Millennial’s find great value in controlling their daily life. By offering the option of working remotely or offering to commute to work after peak hours can also add value to your company. In recent research, the avoidance of the mundane commute allows employees to be more innovative and productive at work because they are not arriving stressed out.

A flexible schedule is wonderful but a greater option is more holiday time –off.  While most federal and state employees are naturally off for holidays, private companies tend to provide few days off. An attractive option is to provide more days off or even half-days. This would allow a better work life balance for employees. While not every company can afford to provide additional holidays there are other options.

Our favorite is providing employees with wonderful social events to really engage with their fellow co-workers. Planning simple after work events such as bowling would allow employees to unwind and build stronger bonds with their co-workers.
